2019 Betfred World Championship Tickets On Sale May 6

CrucibleTickets for next year’s Betfred World Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield will go on sale on the first day of this year’s final, Sunday May 6th.

Snooker’s greatest tournament, one of the highlights of the sporting calendar, has been staged in Sheffield every year since 1977, bringing 32 players to the famous Crucible arena to compete for the ultimate trophy.

Demand for tickets is higher than ever and last year all seats sold out within just 48 hours of going on sale.

The 2019 Championship will run from April 20 to May 6. Fans are strongly urged to be ready to buy tickets from the on-sale date as they will not last.

This year, for the first time, tickets on the first day of sale will be available ONLY to fans who are able to book in person at the Crucible box office.

These seats go on sale at 9am on Sunday, May 6 and will be limited to a third of the tickets available for sale. Fans will be able to buy a maximum of four tickets per person per session, and while they will receive confirmation of purchase, the actual tickets will not be sent out until a month before the 2019 tournament. This approach is being introduced to limit the ability of secondary ticketing providers (or ‘touts’) from purchasing tickets and preventing real fans from accessing them at the advertised price.

The remaining two thirds will be available online, by telephone and in person from 9am on Monday, May 7.

In addition, World Snooker will no longer be offering season tickets or priority booking to fans who have been offered these benefits in the past. This is to ensure fair opportunities to everyone and to give more fans the chance to enjoy the Crucible experience for the first time.

World Snooker believes these new measures will help crack down on secondary ticket markets for this event. World Snooker has also taken the decision to cease sales through secondary markets, and they are committed to diligently policing these markets and taking appropriate measures, including cancelling the tickets that can be identified.

CrucibleWorld Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn said: “We want to reward snooker supporters who have made the trip to Sheffield, or those who live in the city, by giving them the first opportunity to buy tickets for what is one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

“Sheffield is the home of the World Championship, we have a fantastic relationship with our partners there, we love the support we receive from the city and we look forward to going back for many years to come.

“No doubt there will be many eager fans queuing in Tudor Square to get their hands on a 2019 ticket – because they will be like gold dust. There is nothing to match the unique experience of watching the World Championship live at the Crucible.

“While we would like to thank the season ticket holders who have come from around the world in the past for their support over the years, our sport has grown to such an extent that we must ensure a level playing field and an equal chance for new fans to book seats at this wonderful sporting occasion.

“The Crucible is a relatively small venue with less than 1,000 seats. It’s such a wonderful place that we have committed to staying there until at least 2027. We can’t make the venue bigger, but we can create a fairer system for selling tickets which gives all real fans an equal opportunity.”

From Monday May 7, tickets can be booked at www.cruciblesnooker.com or by calling the box office on 0844 65 65 147.
