Mark Allen came from 3-0 down to beat Joe Perry 4-3 and reach the last 16 of the Ruhr Open.
Allen hasn’t won a trophy since last year’s Paul Hunter Classic but now has the chance to capture another Kreativ Dental Clinic European Tour title in Germany thanks to a trio of wins on Saturday.
Perry looked in control when he won the first three frames with top breaks of 66 and 73. But Allen, who earlier in the day beat Josh Boileau and Jack Lisowski, made 104 and 59 in recovering to 3-2, then stole the sixth frame on the colours before making a 70 in the decider.
Shaun Murphy remains on course to defend the title
Defending champion Shaun Murphy is also through to Sunday’s concluding stages; he beat Gerard Greene 4-1 in the last 16 with a top run of 90.
Alan McManus was involved in the longest frame in snooker history during a 4-3 win over Barry Pinches, and he went on to beat Sam Baird 4-1 then came from 3-1 down to beat Stephen Maguire 4-3. McManus made 6-1 and 77 for 3-3 then won the last frame on the colours.
