Pakistan’s Muhammad Asif scored his first victory on the pro tour by beating Oliver Brown 4-2 in the qualifying round of the BetVictor English Open.

Asif, age 40, came through Asia-Oceania Q School earlier this year to earn a place on the main circuit for the first time. Originally from Faisalabad, he has now moved to Birmingham and played in his first ranking event at the recent BetVictor Scottish Open qualifiers, losing to Graeme Dott. Tonight he registered his first victory and earned a place in the final stages in Brentwood in December.
After losing the opening frame, Asif took the next two then made a superb 134 in the fourth to go 3-1 ahead. Brown pulled one back before Asif sealed the result in frame six.
Liam Highfield came from 3-1 down to beat Aaron Hill 4-3 with a top break of 94 while Elliot Slessor scored an impressive 4-1 victory over Tom Ford. China’s Chang Bingyu fired runs of 56, 73, 58 and 104 in a 4-0 success over Fergal O’Brien.
