Brecel Battles Past Muir
Luca Brecel completed a successful week in Preston, defeating Ross Muir 5-4 to qualify for the World Open.
The Belgian star had already clinched his places at both the Indian Open and European Masters with qualifying wins against Sean O’Sullivan and Christopher Keogan respectively. However, his sternest test of the week came today against Muir.
The Scot took the opening frame courtesy of a run of 90. However, he was unable to shake off Brecel, with the pair never moving further than a frame apart. With the scores at 2-2, Brecel took to the front thanks to a fine break of 106. The match eventually came down to a decider, where the Belgian clinched the tie on the final black.
Mike Dunn suffered a whitewash defeat earlier in the week at the hands of Soheil Vahedi, however he turned the tables on the Iranian today with a 5-0 win.
Vahedi defeated the Englishman 4-0 to reach the final stages of the European Masters on Friday, but Dunn displayed perfectly how quickly fortunes can change in snooker. He capped off today’s win with a contribution of 65.
Peter Ebdon overcame China’s Niu Zhuang 5-4 to book his spot in Yushan. The Force compiled breaks of 93, 113 and 67 during the win.
Daniel Wells came from behind to defeat veteran Gerard Greene 5-3. The Welshman trailed 3-2, but he took three frames on the bounce to secure the victory.
