Brecel Honoured In Home Town

A special festival was staged in Maasmechelen in Belgium on Sunday to celebrate Luca Brecel’s achievement in winning the Cazoo World Championship for the first time.

Over 500 people came to the festival to see local hero Brecel, who beat Mark Selby in the final at the Crucible earlier this month. The 28-year-old, who arrived at the reception in a brand new Ferrari 488, was joined on the main stage by his family and others who have helped him throughout his career.

A video was played on the big screen, including messages of congratulation to Brecel from footballers Thibaut Courtois and Simon Mignolet, darts player Dimitri Van den Bergh and WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson.

Maasmechelen is a municipality in the east of Belgium, in the province of Limburg.
