Brown’s Victory Voted Biggest Final Shock

Jordan Brown’s triumph over Ronnie O’Sullivan at last week’s BetVictor Welsh Open has been voted the biggest ever shock in a ranking event final by fans on the WST app.

Brown beat World Champion O’Sullivan 9-8 in the final at the Celtic Manor Resort to win his first title. At number 81 in the world, he was the lowest ranked winning of a ranking crown since Dave Harold at the 1993 Asian Open. Northern Ireland’s Brown had started the tournament a 750-1 outsider and became the longest odds winner of a trophy in snooker history.

Over 2,000 fans had their say in the poll, with Brown taking 46.5% of the vote. Joe Johnson’s defeat of Steve Davis in the 1986 World Championship final came second with 25.6%. The full results were:
