Taylor Made For The Challenge

Taylor presented with the trophy by Mukesh and Svetlana Parmar of the Winchester Snooker Club

Allan Taylor won Challenge Tour event five at the Winchester Club in Leicester, boosting his hopes of regaining a place on the World Snooker Tour.

This was in fact the ninth 2019/20 Challenge Tour event to be completed as it was rescheduled after being postponed earlier in the season.

Liverpool’s Taylor beat Michael Collumb 3-1 in the final to take the £2,000 top prize and jump into the top nine of the Challenge Tour rankings, with just one of the ten events to go. The leading player will then be awarded a Tour Card, with the next eight going into a play-off event for a second card.

Ashley Hugill tops the rankings but has already regained a tour card via the WSF Open, so if he finishes top the player finishing second will earn the automatic spot.

Taylor, 35, previously played on the pro tour from 2013-2019.

Germany’s Lukas Kleckers reached the semi-finals to boost his hopes of the automatic tour place, while Andrew Pagett went out in the last 16.

The tenth and final event runs on Sunday and Monday at the same venue – for results follow tournament director Brendan Moore on twitter here.
