Cheung The Champ At Challenge Tour One

Cheung receives the trophy from tournament director Brendan Moore

Hong Kong’s 20-year-old Ka Wai Cheung won the opening event of the 2019-20 Challenge Tour series, beating Oliver Brown 3-1 in the final.

Cheung won six matches at the tournament in Nuremberg, Germany, to take the £2,000 top prize and win a Challenge Tour event for the first time.

The top player in the Challenge Tour rankings after ten events will be awarded a Tour Card, with the next eight going into a play-off event for a second card.

Cheung showed his potential when he won the world under-18 title in 2015. Earlier this year he represented Hong Kong at the World Cup in China, alongside Andy Lee, and they performed impressively, coming through a tough group to reach the knock out stages before losing to Scotland.

The next Challenge Tour event is in Newbury, England, on September 21-22.
