Jessie May, the Bristol-based children’s Hospice at Home service, continues to be the World Snooker Tour’s official charity partner since its first announcement in 2016.
Jessie May Nurses provide vital respite and palliative care for terminally ill children, and their families across the South West. Over the next year it will cost over £1.2m for the charity to provide this care.
The charity now cares for 185 families*, including 140 terminally ill children and a further 45 bereaved families. Jessie May Nurses provide not only respite care, but also end of life care, emotional support and bereavement support directly into the family home, and all completely free of charge.
WST will continue to raise funds for the charity over the course of the 2019/20 season, as they have done for the past three seasons. Money will be raised via player fines arising from disciplinary action, as well as the many generous donations that we have previously seen from our tournament sponsors. Details of further initiatives will be made available in due course.
Barry Hearn, WST Chairman, said: “We are delighted to be able to continue raising money for Jessie May during the new season and to be able to help support them in their work to provide children with life-limiting conditions the best possible care.
“Jessie May makes a huge difference to children in this region and I urge everyone to learn more about the work that they do and to make a donation.”
Chris Roys, Chief Executive at Jessie May said: “We are so excited to once again be chosen by WST for the 2019/20 season, and to continue growing what has become such a strong relationship for Jessie May. The staff, the players, the sponsors and the snooker fans give fantastic support for which we are hugely grateful and it makes an amazing difference to the children and their families. Over the year we have been able to shout about the amazing work of our Jessie May Nurses across the UK – an opportunity only this partnership can offer.
The number of families that we continue to support is ever growing, and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. The money and awareness brought to us through WST will allow us to continue to always be able to say a resounding ‘Yes’ whenever a child and their family need us.”
