Davis And Bingham All Square
Mark Davis and Stuart Bingham are tied at 4-4 after the first session of the BetVictor English Open final in Crawley.
First to nine frames tonight will take the Steve Davis Trophy and a top prize of £70,000.
Bingham is playing in his ninth ranking final and seeking his fifth title, while Davis has reached the final of a ranking event for the first time after 27 years as a pro. Victory would make 46-year-old Davis the oldest ranking event winner since Doug Mountjoy in 1989.
The opening frame came down to the colours and world number 45 Davis took it by potting green, brown and blue. World number 15 Bingham levelled with a run of 75 then got the better of a 41-minute third frame. The fourth was another scrappy affair, Davis taking it for 2-2.
After the interval, 2015 World Champion Bingham regained the lead, then Davis made a 72 in the sixth to make it 3-3. Basildon’s Bingham edged ahead for the third time with a 77, only for Hastings cueman Davis to finish the session superbly with a 136 total clearance.
The match resumes at 7pm.
