Ding Junhui has received a message of congratulation from the Wuxi Municipal Government in his native Jiangsu Province in China.
Ding became the first Asian player to reach the final of the Betfred World Championship, and ran Mark Selby close before losing 18-14. The message reads:
“We are so glad to know that you were the runner-up in the World Snooker Championship. We are so proud of your achievement, which has won honour for your motherland and home town. In the passing years, you have played a significant role with your persistence and dedication in popularising and promoting snooker in China and even in Asia. Your spirit and positive energy of fighting for excellence have became a model for our next young generation.
“On behalf of the Wuxi Sports Bureau and Wuxi Sports Federation, we want to extend our warmest congratulations to you at this historic moment. We hope you will make a greater contribution to our country and win more honours for your home town in the future with your indomitable and persistent efforts.”
