Glasgow To Host Scottish County Championship

Teams from around Scotland will head to the Q Club in Glasgow on Sunday July 26th for the County Championship.

The event is set to be staged for the third consecutive year, again with the intention to encourage more amateurs and juniors to get involved with snooker, and for talented players to gain experience of a competitive environment. Defending champions are Red Triangle of Cumbernauld.

The Scottish Leagues sending teams this time are:
West of Scotland League (chairman Billy Henderson)
Aberdeen League (chairman Kenny McPherson)
Edinburgh League (organiser John Taylor)
Red Triangle of Cumbernauld (Organiser Kevin Glen)
Dumfries League (Chairman Lindsay Currie / Paul Jamieson )
Borders League (Chairman David Clark)

Tournament organiser Tom Moran said: “We have expanded this year and we have more leagues waiting to be involved, including the Paisley, Falkirk, Forres and Elgin leagues. It truly is an exciting time to be part of the County Championship in Scotland.

“I’d like to thank the Q Club manager Lake Sharma for his support. I’m sure the tournament will be a great success again and I hope to see plenty of people coming to watch.

“We are gathering momentum and raising awareness about snooker among the younger generation in Scotland. It’s so important for the future of the sport here to get more kids involved. We are looking into the snooker in schools initiative in order to swell the ranks as well as reaching out to the under privileged and disabled.”
