Higgins: O’Sullivan Is Best Ever

John Higgins believes that fellow snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan would be a worthy winner of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The ceremony takes place this Sunday night (December 20th) with O’Sullivan among the six nominees alongside Lewis Hamilton, Tyson Fury, Jordan Henderson, Hollie Doyle and Stuart Broad. Click here to read more.

YOU have the chance to vote for O’Sullivan either by telephone or online, details of how to vote will be available on the night from 8pm.

Higgins and O’Sullivan have had a healthy rivalry on the table for 30 years having first crossed cues as juniors.

“I first played him when he was 15, I beat him in a deciding frame, and he burst out crying with his dad!” recalls Higgins. “He is the best player ever in my eyes – that’s the biggest compliment I can give him. Even when I saw him at 15 or 16 he had something magical about him. He was like the Ready Brek man, he had a glow about him.

“When you look at the whole presence he has brought to the game, not just for snooker fans but for the casual viewers as well, he is up there with Alex Higgins and Steve Davis.

“He would be a worthy winner on Sunday, though there are other great champions in there.”
