High Five For Williams

Mark Williams came out on top in Championship League Group Five, beating Ricky Walden 3-1 in the final in Coventry.

After winning the opening frame with a break of 48, Williams made a superb 136 to go 2-0 up. Walden pulled one back but Williams secured victory in frame four.

Welshman Williams has enjoyed a revival in recent months, highlighted by victory at the Northern Ireland Open. And the 42-year-old has now booked a spot in the Championship League Winners’ Group on March 28 and 29, joining Ali Carter, Zhou Yuelong, Mark Selby and Kyren Wilson.

Earlier in the semi-finals, Walden came from 2-1 down to beat Judd Trump 3-2 with breaks of 104 and 131 in the last two frames. Williams saw off Ben Woollaston 3-1.

Group six starts on Thursday with Walden, Trump and Woollaston joined by Martin Gould, Li Hang, Michael White and Graeme Dott. Click here for live scores and here for results and fixtures.
