Highfield Makes Three Tons To Beat Cahill
Liam Highfield won a tremendous match against James Cahill by a 4-3 scoreline to reach the final stages of the BetVictor Scottish Open.
The contest featured four centuries and three more breaks over 50, Highfield coming out on top and going through to the last 64 in Edinburgh next month. Runs of 67, 104 and 117 helped put him 3-1 ahead, Cahill taking frame three with a 108. Breaks of 53 and 56 saw Cahill recover to 3-3, only for Stoke’s Highfield to win it with a 113 in the decider.
Mark Joyce trailed Matthew Selt three times but eventually prevailed 4-3, taking a 57-minute decider on the colours. Jimmy Robertson top scored with 96 in a 4-1 win over Oliver Brown.
Brazil’s Victor Sarkis, the Pan-American champion, saw his pro debut end in a 4-1 defeat against Xiao Guodong, while Gary Wilson made a 137 – the top break of the event so far – during a 4-1 victory over Jamie O’Neill.
The qualifying round concludes on Friday.
