Highfield Stuns Selby In Gdynia
Liam Highfield scored one of his best career results with a 4-3 victory over Mark Selby to reach the last 16 of the Gdynia Open in Poland.
Stoke’s 24-year-old Highfield also beat Ian Glover 4-3 and Stuart Bingham 4-2 at the season’s final Kreativ Dental European Tour event. He then beat World Champion Selby with top breaks of 57, 71 and 76.
On Sunday, Highfield will meet Mark Williams, who beat Peter Lines 4-0 in the third round with a top break of 97.
Welsh Open semi-finalist Luca Brecel kept his fine recent form going with a trio of wins. He beat Alex Davies 4-1 in round three with a top run of 112.
Stuart Carrington came from 3-1 down to edge out Ross Muir 4-3 while Martin Gould knocked in breaks of 111 and 106 in a 4-2 win over Fergal O’Brien.
Jimmy Robertson made a 110 in a 4-1 win over Peter Ebdon while Joe Perry beat Anthony McGill by the same scoreline with a top break of 102. Perry now meets David Gilbert, who beat Liang Wenbo 4-1 with best breaks of 76, 83, 84 and 86.
