Jessie May Becomes World Snooker Charity

Jessie MayJessie May Children’s Hospice at Home, based in Bristol, has become World Snooker’s official charity partner for the 2016/17 season.

Jessie May provides a hospice at home service for terminally ill children, offering care to families in Bristol, Bath, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. Over the next year it will cost around £1.2m for the charity to provide this care.

The charity is currently caring for 105 terminally children throughout the area and a further 40 bereaved families. Jessie May Nurses provide respite care, end of life care, emotional support and bereavement support directly into the family home, completely free of charge.

World Snooker will carry out various initiatives to raise funds for the charity during the course of the season. Money will again be raised at the annual World Snooker Awards, as well as via player fines arising from disciplinary action and generous donations from tournament sponsors. Details of further initiatives will be made available in due course.

Barry Hearn, World Snooker Chairman said: “We are delighted to be able to raise money for Jessie May during the new season and to be able to help support them in their work to provide children with life-limiting conditions the best possible care.

“Jessie May makes a huge difference to children in this region and I urge everyone to learn more about the work that they do and to make a donation.”

Jessie MayChris Roys, Chief Executive at Jessie May said: “We are so excited to have been chosen by World Snooker, which has offered us a wonderful opportunity to shout about the fantastic work of our Jessie May Nurses.
