Former professionals Lei Peifan and Thor Chuan Leong will meet on the final day of Asia-Oceania Q School Event One in Bangkok, with the winner receiving a two-year card for the World Snooker Tour.
China’s Lei lost his tour card at the end of last season and is seeking an immediate return to the professional ranks. His best performance on the circuit to date saw him make Judgement Day at 2022 World Championship qualifying. Lei came within a single frame of the Crucible, but lost out 10-9 against Hossein Vafaei.
Lei’s match today saw him defeat Filipino Jefrey Roda 4-3 in an enthralling encounter. After taking a tight opening frame, Lei crafted a run of 77 to move 2-0 up. Breaks of 73 and 136 helped Roda blitz to three on the bounce and lead 3-2. However, Lei regained control and took the last two frames to emerge victorious.
Malaysia’s Thor earned his final round berth thanks to a 4-0 whitewash win against Pakistan’s Sharjeel Mahmood Asmat. He crafted breaks of 85 and 79 on his way to victory and is aiming to secure a tour card for the first time since 2020.
The other final round tie will be contested between Thailand’s Manasawin Phetmalaikul and China’s Ka Wai Cheung. Phetmalaikul earned his progression with a 4-1 defeat of Dhruv Jatan Patel, while Ka scored a 4-3 victory against Guoqiang He.
The winners will both receive two-year tour cards, with event two kicking off on Wednesday.
