Liang Wenbo will take a 5-3 advantage over Judd Trump going into the final session at the 2016 Coral English Open in Manchester.
The match carries high stakes, with the winner being the only player left in contention for the £1 million bonus on offer for winning all four Home Nations events.
In the opening exchanges, it was the Firecracker who got off to a sizzling start. Liang made two breaks of 95 and rapidly moved into a 2-0 lead. However, having got in first in the third thanks to a terrific long red, he couldn’t capitalise and let Trump off the hook. The Juddernaught took the frame, before compiling a run of 54 in the fourth frame and go into the interval at 2-2.
Liang started the second mini-session the way he began the previous one. Knocking in breaks of 76 and 93, to restore his two frame advantage.
A potentially key moment of the match came in the seventh frame. Trump managed to force a re-spot after Liang ran out of position on his previous shot. After a good opening shot from Trump, the Chinese potter took on an ambitious double to the bottom left pocket and made it.
Trump made a break of 52 in the final frame of the session to pull back within two and set up an intriguing evening.
