Lichtenberg Downs Doherty
Tour debutant Simon Lichtenberg secured his first win as a professional with a fine 5-2 defeat of 1997 World Champion Ken Doherty at Yushan World Open qualifying in Preston.
Germany’s Lichtenberg secured his place on the World Snooker Tour thanks to winning the European Under-21 Championship in February. He joins Lukas Kleckers as the only two German players on the circuit.
The impressive defeat of Doherty comes off the back of a difficult start for Lichtenberg, after he succumbed to a 4-0 whitewash against Jamie Jones at Riga Masters qualifying.
Another tour debutant Harvey Chandler was victorious after fighting back to defeat two-time ranking event winner Michael White 5-4.
Chandler earned his spot on tour by winning the European Amateur Championship. He trailed 4-2 this afternoon, but won the final three frames to snatch the win.
Quickfire Thai Thepchaiya Un-Nooh blitzed to a 5-1 victory against Billy Castle. He averaged just 15.4 seconds per shot as he eased to the win. While Joe Perry defeated China’s Li Yuan 5-3.
