Lines Into Semis In Haining

Rising star Oliver Lines stormed through to the semi-finals of the Haining China Leather City Asian Tour event with a trio of wins on Thursday.

The 19-year-old from Leeds, playing his first season on the World Snooker Tour, has already shown his potential this season by beating the likes of Mark Selby and Mark Williams, and is now into his first professional semi-final.

After seeing off Zhou Yuelong 4-2 and Mike Dunn 4-3, Lines beat Ryan Day 4-2 with top breaks of 120 and 113.

“I played well from start to finish,” said Lines. “I didn’t miss much and my saftey has been good so I gave myself the best chance.

“If I lift the trophy tomorrow it will be my first tournament win. I’m just going to keep taking it one match at a time. If I get ahead of myself I’ll start missing balls.”

He will now face Jimmy Robertson, who beat Tian Pengfei 4-2 in the quarters with a top break of 72.

Robertson said: “Oliver is playing really well at the moment. I’d love to lift the trophy tomorrow, it would mean everything. I’ve been training really hard but the results just haven’t been there until now.”

Stuart Bingham, seeking his fourth Asian Tour title, thrashed home favourite Ding Junhui 4-0 with top runs of 137, 114 and 67.

“I’m here to win it, every tournament I try to play my best. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll come out as a champion.”

He now meets Matt Selt, who edged out Peter Ebdon 4-3, taking the decider 70-42.

The semi-finals and final are on Friday, with the winner to receive £10,000. He will also earn a place in the Champion of Champions event – though Bingham has already qualified for the tournament in Coventry.
