Murphy Eases To Daqing Spot

Shaun Murphy stormed to a 6-0 defeat of Australia’s Matthew Bolton to qualify for next month’s International Championship.

The Magician is still searching for his first ranking title of the season despite a strong start, reaching finals at the China Championship and Paul Hunter Classic. The defeat leaves two-time World Billiards finalist Bolton without a match win on the World Snooker Tour. Murphy made consecutive runs of 104 and 62 on his way to this evening’s victory.

Ali Carter whitewashed Jamie Curtis Barrett 6-0 to seal his place in Daqing.

The Captain elected not to defend his Yushan World Open title last week, but looked to be match sharp this evening. He compiled breaks of 50, 59, 53, 62 and 69 on his way to the win.

2014 International Champion Ricky Walden narrowly overcame tour rookie Billy Joe Castle in a tense 6-5 victory.

Walden has recently been dealing with spinal injury problems, but hopes to put that to one side after receiving an injection to relieve the effects of the injury.

The Chester potter had to show his battling qualities today after trailing 3-0 and 5-3. However, he managed to claim the final three frames to progress to Daqing.,

Zhang Yong and Lee Walker came through marathon battles to progress, both men recorded victories which took over five and a half hours to complete.

Zhang won a decider to pip Fergal O’Brien 6-5 having trailed 4-2. Walker also required the final frame to see off Stuart Carrington 6-5.
