Eight players including last year’s runner-up Fergal O’Brien came through the qualifying rounds of the World Seniors Championship today to book a place in the final stages.
The Sky Sports-televised event takes place on the weekend of January 30-31 at the Guild Hall in Preston, featuring legends of the sport such as Jimmy White, John Parrott, Joe Johnson, Ken Doherty and defending champion Mark Williams (click here for ticket details).
Joining them will be the eight qualifiers who came through in Wigan. O’Brien beat Wayne Brown 2-0 in the final round, while crowd favourite Tony Drago saw off Peter Lines by the same scoreline.
World number 23 Mark Davis booked his spot with a 2-0 win over Gary Wilkinson while world number 22 Robert Milkins saw off Les Dodd 2-0. Dominic Dale beat Jamie Bodle 2-0, Anthony Hamilton beat Tony Chappel 2-0 and Rory McLeod edged out Rod Lawler 2-1.
The only amateur to make it through was Manchester’s Gary Lees who beat Mark King 2-1.
