Page Turns Over Miah On Debut
Promising teenager Jackson Page scored a 4-0 win over Hammad Miah on his professional debut, in the qualifying round of the Kaspersky Riga Masters.
Welsh 17-year-old Page is through to the final stages of the season’s first ranking event, to take place in Latvia next month.
He won the European under-21 Championship earlier this year to earn a place on the World Snooker Tour for the first time. And Page made the perfect start as he whitewashed Miah with a top break of 112.
Page reached the last 32 of the Welsh Open while competing as an amateur in 2017 and now has the chance to showcase his talent on the pro circuit.
World number 12 David Gilbert suffered a surprise 4-3 defeat against amateur Ian Preece. From 3-0 down, Preece took the next four frames; winning three of those on the colours.
James Cahill scored one of the biggest shocks in snooker history when he knocked Ronnie O’Sullivan out of the World Championship in April, and he made a fine start to the new season, beating Jimmy White 4-0.
Cahill, who was an amateur last season but has now regained his tour card, made a top break of 74 as he progressed to the last 64.
Indian Open champion Matthew Selt came from 2-0 down to beat Jimmy Robertson 4-2 with a top run of 86
Crucible semi-finalist Gary Wilson came from 3-2 down to edge out Chris Wakelin 4-3, while last season’s Rookie of the Year Joe O’Connor made a 103 in a 4-3 victory over Peter Ebdon.
