Perry Edges Ahead After Tense Morning
Joe Perry holds a slender 5-4 lead over Akani Songsermsawad going into the evening session at Ponds Forge in Betfred World Championship qualifying.
The Sheffield venue is set for a high stakes night of snooker with seven of the ten matches coming down to a 5-4 scoreline.
Perry had led Songsermsawad 3-1, before being pegged back by the Thai who took the final frame of the session to draw within one of the world number 19.
David Gilbert has a one frame lead over Scotland’s Rhys Clark going into this evening. The former International Championship finalist made breaks of 65, 105 and 82, but Clark claimed the last two frames to trail 5-4.
European Under 21 Champion Alexander Ursenbacher is continuing his impressive form at Ponds Forge, he leads Scott Donaldson 6-3. They played out an entertaining morning session with the Swiss potter making breaks of 60, 87,85 and 66, as he opened up the three frame advantage.
Yan Bingtao is 5-4 up on Mark Davis. The 2015 World Cup winner had led 5-3 after pinching the eighth frame on the black, but Davis responded with a run of 74 to make it 5-4.
Martin O’Donnell’s tour status hangs in the balance. He trails Hammad Miah 7-1, needing to win to keep alive his hopes of retaining a tour card.
