Career highlights:
1995: Wins the Australian Open, a non-ranking event.
1999: Reaches the final of the British Open, losing 9-7 to Fergal O’Brien. Climbs to number ten in the world.
2002: His second ranking final ends in another narrow defeat as he loses 9-8 to Mark Williams at the China Open in Shanghai.
2007: Reaches the quarter-finals of the World Championship for the fourth time; he is yet to make the semis.
2017: Fulfils a career ambition by winning his first ranking title at the German Masters in Berlin, 26 years after turning pro. Comes through a tough draw, beating Mark Selby, Mark Williams,  Barry Hawkins and Stuart Bingham to reach the final, where he sees off Ali Carter 9-6.
2019: Semi-finalist at the Indian Open.
2021: Knocks Mark Williams and Ricky Walden out of the UK Championship before losing to Luca Brecel in the last 16.
