Career highlights
2004: Wins the World Under-21 title.
2015: Reaches his first ranking event final at the China Open in Beijing. Beats the likes of of Barry Hawkins and Ding Junhui before losing 10-2 to Mark Selby.
2017: Makes his second official 147 during World Championship qualifying. Makes his Crucible debut, losing to Ronnie O’Sullivan.
2018: Reaches the semi-finals of the Welsh Open.
2019: Enjoys a brilliant run to the semi-finals of the World Championship, winning three qualifying matches then beating Luca Brecel, Mark Selby and Ali Carter at the Crucible. Loses 17-11 to Judd Trump. That run earns him £100,000 and moves him to 20th in the world. At the UK Championship he joins the small group of players to have made four consecutive centuries in a match, during a 6-4 win over Chris Wakelin.
2020: Makes the semi-finals of the European Masters in Austria.
2021: Makes the third official 147 of his career at the WST Pro Series against Liam Highfield, and soon follows up with his fourth, at the UK Championship in a match against Ian Burns. Reaches the second ranking event final of his career at the British Open but loses 6-4 to Mark Williams.
2022: Achieves a career landmark, 18 years after turning professional, by winning his first ranking title. After knocking out Ronnie O’Sullivan earlier in the event, he thrashes Joe O’Connor 9-2 in the final of the Scottish Open in Edinburgh to capture the trophy.
2023: Reaches the semi-finals of the WST Classic before a narrow 5-4 defeat against Pang Junxu.
