- Preece won three matches in 2016 Shanghai Masters qualifying, but was denied a trip to China by David Gilbert losing out 5-2.
- He regained a place on the pro tour by coming through Q School in 2016. He was one of the four leading players on the Order of Merit not to otherwise gain a tour card.
- The Welshman won the World Amateur title at the age of just 17 in 1999, beating David Lilley in the final. He also won the European under-19 Championship the previous year.
- Preece turned pro in 2003 and had several seasons on the main tour. His best run came at the 2009 Welsh Open when he knocked out three players – including Stuart Bingham – to reach the last 32 before losing to Stephen Maguire.
