Career highlights
2007: Plays in the final of Junior Pot Black at the Crucible, losing to Mitchell Mann.
2009: Awarded the Paul Hunter Scholarship which gives him free training for a year at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. Recovers from Hodgkin’s lymphoma after several cycles of chemotherapy.
2010: Turns professional after finishing top of the rankings on the secondary tour. Beats Mark Selby in the semi-finals of a PTC event before losing to Tom Ford. Named Rookie of the Year.
2013: Reaches the quarter-finals of the China Open. Qualifies for the Crucible for the first time before losing to Barry Hawkins.
2017: Makes his first ranking event semi-final appearance at the Shanghai Masters.
2018: Reaches the final of a ranking event for the first time at the Riga Masters in Latvia before losing to Neil Robertson. Climbs into the top 16 for the first time.
2019: Makes his debut at the Masters. Reaches the final at the lucrative China Open in Beijing, before losing 11-4 to Neil Robertson. Runner-up at the Scottish Open to Mark Selby in his third ranking final appearance.
2020: Reaches the final of the World Grand Prix but loses 10-7 to Judd Trump.
2021: Beaten by Trump in two more ranking finals – losing 9-2 at the German Masters and 4-0 at the Gibraltar Open.
2022: Reaches the quarter-finals of the World Championship for the first time. After seeing off Matthew Stevens 10-8, he scores a career-best 13-12 victory over Neil Robertson. Nearly makes the semis but loses 13-12 to John Higgins. Semi-finalist at the UK Championship.
2023: Reaches the semi-finals of the Masters for the first time before losing to Mark Williams. Semi-finalist at the German Masters.
