Simmonds finished top of the Q School ranking list in 2015, meaning he was the best performer over the two events who didn’t earn a place on the tour. He just missed out on qualifying from event two, losing 4-3 to Paul Davison in the final round.
The player from the Isle of Wight spent one season on the main tour in 2001/02 and another in 2003/04, reaching the last 80 of several ranking events.
Simmonds showed great promise as an amateur, winning both the IBSF world under-21 and world amateur titles in 1998. In the latter he beat Ryan Day 11-10 in the final in China.
