Career highlights

1998: Reaches his first ranking final at the UK Championship, denied the title by John Higgins.
1999: Wins the Regal Masters invitation event.
2000: Reaches the World Championship final and leads Mark Williams 13-7 at the Crucible, only to lose 18-16. Wins the Masters, beating Ken Doherty 10-8 in an exciting final.
2003: Wins his first and only ranking title at the UK Championship in York, scoring a 10-8 final success over Stephen Hendry.
2005: Reaches his second Crucible final and leads Shaun Murphy 10-6 overnight, but again has to settle for the runner-up prize after an 18-16 reverse. Climbs to number four in the world. Wins the Northern Ireland Trophy invitation event.
2011: Wins the Championship League.
2013: Reaches his eighth ranking event final at the Haikou World Open, despite having to play his first two matches with a borrowed cue. Beats Neil Robertson, Shaun Murphy and Judd Trump before losing to Mark Allen.
2015: Qualifies for the Crucible and beats Mark Williams before losing to Ronnie O’Sullivan.
2018: Semi-finalist at the International Championship.
2019: Beats Mark Selby on a run to the UK Championship quarter-finals, before losing to Stephen Maguire.
2022: Wins three matches to qualify for the Crucible before a narrow 10-8 defeat against Ali Carter.
