1998: Reaches his first ranking final at the UK Championship, denied the title by John Higgins.
1999: Wins the Regal Masters invitation event.
2000: Reaches the World Championship final and leads Mark Williams 13-7 at the Crucible, only to lose 18-16. Wins the Masters, beating Ken Doherty 10-8 in an exciting final.
2003: Wins his first and only ranking title at the UK Championship in York, scoring a 10-8 final success over Stephen Hendry.
2005: Reaches his second Crucible final and leads Shaun Murphy 10-6 overnight, but again has to settle for the runner-up prize after an 18-16 reverse. Climbs to number four in the world. Wins the Northern Ireland Trophy invitation event.
