Poomjaeng Hammers Thor

Thailand’s Dechawat Poomjaeng scored a 4-1 win over Malaysia’s Thor Chuan Leong on day three of Asia-Oceania Q School in Bangkok.

Poomjaeng is a former Crucible competitor and has enjoyed success on the World Snooker Tour, but he dropped off the professional circuit at the conclusion of the 16/17 campaign. He’s now into the last 16 and is just three wins away from a return to snooker’s top table.

Pakistan’s former professional Hamza Akbar is through to the last 16 with a 4-1 win over Mongolia’s Lkhagvasuren Tumurchudur. He faces Thailand’s Pornpiya Kaosumran next.

Home favourite Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon is through after a 4-2 defeat of Rachata Khantee, his next opponent is Mongolia’s Khash-Ochir Tuvshinjargal.

The tournament consists of two events, with the finalists from both to earn a two-year card to the World Snooker Tour. The four successful players will be awarded a place on the professional circuit for the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons. The final event finishes on June 11th.
