Cazoo Players Championship Race – Update
It’s down to the quarter-finals at this week’s BetVictor Welsh Open, and the race to qualify for next week’s Cazoo Players Championship is gradually becoming clearer.
Only the top 16 on the one-year ranking list – as it stands at the end of Sunday’s play – will earn a place in next week’s tournament which runs from February 22 to 28.
Shaun Murphy’s run to the last eight in Wales has lifted him to 15th place as things stand, ahead of Tom Ford who is also still going strong at Celtic Manor. Ford is level with Jamie Jones on £51,000, with Jones edged down to 17th place on countback.
Masters winner Yan Bingtao and Champion of Champions Mark Allen are both out of the running, having lost in the last 16.
But four players currently outside the top 16 still have an opportunity to make it. Mark Williams needs to reach the semi-finals to have a chance, while Jordan Brown, Ali Carter and Stephen Maguire all need to reach the final.
