Rankings Update: Selby Closes Gap

Mark Selby has slashed Judd Trump’s lead at the top of the world rankings following his victory in the Betfred World Championship.

Selby beat Shaun Murphy 18-15 in the final at the Crucible on Monday night to win the title for the fourth time. The £500,000 top prize, his highest career pay-day, lifted him from fourth to second in the rankings at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Trump went out at the quarter-finals stages, earning £50,000. His lead at the top has been reduced from £989,000 to £124,000. Going into next season, Selby will certainly have Trump in his sights as he aims to take the number one spot for the first time since March 2019.

Selby also finishes the season top of the one-year ranking list having earned £820,500.

Murphy’s runner-up prize of £200,000 boosts him from seventh to fifth on the official list and rescues a season in which he had previously reached only one ranking semi-final. He leaps from 18th to sixth on the one-year list.

Ronnie O’Sullivan finishes the season third in the rankings with Neil Robertson fourth. Kyren Wilson reached the semi-finals at the Crucible and he’s in sixth place, while Stuart Bingham was the other losing semi-finalist and he climbs from 18th to 15th.

Jamie Jones enjoyed a fine run to the last 16 in Sheffield and he’s up 14 places to 55th, capping off an impressive return to the tour.
