Roy Andrewartha Passes Away

Roy Andrewartha, a professional player in the 1970s and 80s, passed away last month at the age of 82.

Andrewartha turned pro in 1976 and his best achievement came two years later when he reached the quarter-finals of the UK Championship, notably beating John Spencer 9-8 in the last 16 before losing 9-4 to eventual champion Doug Mountjoy.

In 1984 he reached the final stages of the World Championship thanks to a 10-9 win (from 9-6 down) over Mark Wildman in the final qualifying round. At the Crucible, Andrewartha was beaten 10-4 by Eddie Charlton. He retired from the pro game later the same year.

WST sends our sympathies to all of Roy’s family and friends.
