Selby Fan Simona Conquers Wimbledon
Tennis ace Simona Halep, who revealed her friendship with Mark Selby earlier this week, won her first Wimbledon title today.
Halep crushed Serena Williams 6-2, 6-2 in the final of the women’s singles at the biggest tournament in tennis to win her second Grand Slam trophy.
After beating Elina Svitolina in the semi-finals on Thursday, Halep was asked about the fact that she only follows two people on Twitter, and one of them is three-time Crucible king Selby.
“I say that I have no idea how you play snooker,” said the 27-year-old. “But I appreciate him. He’s been in Romania a few times. I met him. Also I have a snooker ball signed from him. That’s why I follow him.”
That’s what we call a backhand compliment.
Selby responded with a message saying: “I hope Simona can win the final. I am rooting for her and wish her the best of luck on Saturday.”
Halep has 300,000 followers on Twitter, but aside from Selby the only person she follows is her coach Darren Cahill.
Congratulations Simona!
