Selby Targets Silverware

World Champion Mark Selby is looking to carry his momentum into the new season.

Selby will be at the Kaspersky Riga Masters next week having beaten Akani Songsermsawad in the qualifying round.

Less than two months ago, Selby won his second Crucible crown, beating Ding Junhui 18-14 in the final. And he is determined to add more silverware during the 2016/17 campaign.

“My target is just to win more tournaments, get more ranking titles on my CV and carry on competing at the top level,” said the world number one from Leicester. “I practise hard for every tournament and give it 100 per cent.”

Selby admits that he triumphed in Sheffield despite only producing his best in brief spells. “I played one good session in the quarter-finals, one good one in the semis and then the final I felt I played well from start to finish. Other than that I was quite ropey. But it’s all about winning matches,” he said.

“If I’m not playing well I can grind it out and win. You’re not going to play your A Game all the time. To have won the world title twice makes me feel very proud. It hasn’t really sunk in yet.”
