Selt Takes CLS Group Two Honours
Matthew Selt, a late call up for Championship League Snooker Group Two, grabbed the opportunity with both hands as he beat Judd Trump 3-2 in the final at Crondon Park Golf Club in Essex.
Selt was handed a place in the event at short notice when Neil Robertson withdrew on Tuesday evening, and took full advantage. The Essex potter bagged £6,200 for his efforts and will be back in February for the final group where the big money is at stake as well as a spot in the prestigious Champion of Champions.
“It has been enjoyable and a great experience. I have been to the Championship League to watch before and it is a tournament I always wanted to play in,” said Selt.
“My form has carried on this week. I have had some good wins and some tough matches. In the final I played well but so did Judd and maybe 3-2 was the right result.
“I am playing well at the moment. Coming back for the Winners’ Group is another good tournament with big money to play for.”
Earlier Selt had scored a 3-2 semi-final win over Ali Carter, who was looking to eclipse Trump in the Championship League Snooker all-time money list. Trump, on the other hand, made light work of Marco Fu with a 3-0 victory.
Trump, Fu, Carter and fifth placed finisher Stuart Bingham will return in Group Three on 19th January where they will be joined by Mark Davis, Ryan Day and Ricky Walden.
