He now replaces Steve Dawson as CEO. Dawson has become Chairman of WST, following the recent announcement that Barry Hearn OBE has stepped aside. Hearn remains as President of Matchroom Sport Group of Companies, in an advisory role.

Brownell said: “I am delighted to take up the position of Chief Executive Officer and I’m excited to play a part in leading snooker into a new era.

“We have enjoyed great success over the past decade and become a truly global sport, while building strong foundations for the future. We are particularly proud of the way that snooker has coped with the challenges posed by the pandemic over the past year.

“We are determined to continue our growth by exploring all opportunities to create new events, bring snooker to new territories and welcome new broadcasters and sponsors. This is our commitment to our players and the many millions of fans around the world.”
