The epic conclusion to the first Triple Crown event of the season finished close to 1am as Neil Robertson completed a 10-9 victory over Judd Trump, the match coming down to the last few balls.

And 1.1 million BBC viewers were enthralled into the small hours, giving the channel a massive 21% audience share.

The peak viewing figure for the final was 1.8 million while the average audience across the six-hour final session was 1.15 million.

A spokesman for WST said: “This final was an absolute classic, gradually building towards a thrilling conclusion, creating the kind of drama that our sport is renowned for. Judd Trump and Neil Robertson are two of the all-time greats and to see their nerves stretched to the limit was an incredible spectacle.

“It’s fantastic to see that so many fans followed it until the end on BBC Two. The deciding frame lasted 66 minutes but it was so absorbing that viewers would have found it impossible to switch off. This proves once again the huge appetite for the gradually unfolding stories which snooker creates.”

The next BBC-televised tournament will be the Masters at Alexandra Palace in London from January 10 to 17, contested by the elite top 16 players.
