Snooker’s Big Names Are Barnsley Bound

Snooker’s English Open comes to Barnsley for the first time next month, and many of the sport’s top stars have already committed to the world ranking event.

The tournament at the Barnsley Metrodome runs from October 16 to 22 and it will be the first of the season’s Home Nations events.

The Eurosport-televised event will carry a top prize of £70,000, and there’s a massive £1 million bonus on offer for any player who can win all four Home Nations tournaments.

Barnsley will host 128 players all starting in a flat draw and needing to win seven matches to capture the Steve Davis Trophy.

Among the cue kings who have already entered are:

World Champion and world number one Mark Selby
World number two John Higgins
Top-eight ranked potters Shaun Murphy, Marco Fu, Barry Hawkins and Neil Robertson
Defending champion Liang Wenbo
Snooker legend Jimmy White
Former World Champions Stuart Bingham, Mark Williams, Graeme Dott, Ken Doherty and Peter Ebdon

The entry deadline is October 4th and more of the top players are expected to enter before that date.
