With the Bank of Communications OTO Shanghai Masters to start on Monday, we found out more about the defending champion.

Abroad – What is your favourite holiday destination?

I went with my wife to Koh Samui in Thailand for our honeymoon which was brilliant.

Book – What is the last book you read?
I’m not a book reader, I download audibles. I was listening to Mike Tyson’s Undisputed Truth the other day.

Cue – What cue do you use?
It’s a Cue Doctor cue using Sight Right technology.

Day – What happens in a typical working day for you?
I’m up at 7am with the kids, I take them to school and go off to practise for about five hours. I then pick the kids up and just chill out with the family.

Education – How would you get on in a pub quiz?
I’d know a lot of the sport questions and just a little bit of music and general knowledge.

Film – What is your favourite film?
I’d have to say the Shawshank Redemption.

Goals – What are your aims for this season?
The same as every season really – just try to win one tournament. Whether it’s an Asian Tour event, European Tour event or the World Championship…the standard is so good nowadays that you’ve had a good year if you win one.

Hobbies – What are your interests away from the table?
I’ve just started going to the gym to get a bit fitter. I was a keen golfer back in the day before snooker really got busy. I still play the odd game but I’m a bit of a hacker now.

Idols – Who are yours?
Anyone that’s been a champion of their sport – Roger Federer, Mike Tyson, Phil Taylor – I’ve been lucky enough to chat with a couple of them. Also the likes of Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O’Sullivan.

Job – What would you be if you weren’t a snooker player?
I’ve always been a bit of a computer geek. If anyone on the tour needs their phone sorting out or a new app, I’m always pretty clued up. So it would probably be something to do with technology.

Kid – Were you a well-behaved child?
I think I was – but I’m sure my mum and dad would say no. I was a goody two-shoes at school and a prefect at one stage. But then I broke both my arms when I fell off a roof after messing about.

Family Man: celebrating with the Bingham clan at the Crucible

Lucky – What is the biggest piece of luck you’ve ever had?
I’d have to say meeting my wife – I’ve got to get some brownie points!

Moan – What makes you have a good moan?
Most people would say I’m not a moaner but my wife would disagree. I reckon the only time I do is when I get tired.

Nightmare – What is your worst moment on a snooker table?
Whenever you’re two balls away from winning a match and you miss or get a kick and watch your opponent clear up. That’s why I made certain before celebrating during the World final.

Oops! – What is the clumsiest thing you’ve ever done?
I won the World Amateur in 1996, then the next year the tournament was in Zimbabwe and I got the dates of the flights mixed up. On the itinerary it said arrive on a Tuesday, and I thought it meant I had to leave that day. I was on the phone to the airline asking for the weight limit on luggage and they said “Where are you? You should be in the air!” In the end I arrived just before the tournament started, but I always read the itinerary a few times over now.

Could a comedy double act with Fergal O’Brien be in the pipeline?

Picky – Is there anything you are particular about?
I always pick up dirt from the table. My first experience in a snooker club was as a table cleaner so when I see anything on the baize, I always pick it up.

Quiet – How long could you last in a sponsored silence?
I’m not much of a talker. I can go off on my own and I’m happy to sit in front of a TV for hours and not say anything.

Retirement – What do you plan to do after putting your cue away for good?
I’ll probably get the golf clubs out and try to get the handicap down. Other than that, I’ll look to spend some time with the family because of all the travelling we do now.

Shopping – Where do you buy your clothes from?
Everyone on the tour will know this – Hugo Boss. Near enough everything I own is from there. They know me on a first name basis and they’ve had a few quid off me since winning the World Championship.

TV – What are your favourite programmes?
I watch golf or anything to do with sport. I put the odd film on with my wife but, other than that my five favourite channels are Sky Sports 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Unforgettable – What is your greatest ever moment on a snooker table?
I’ll never forget beating Stephen Hendry on my Crucible debut 15 years ago, and beating Mark Williams for my first ranking event in Australia in 2011. Winning the English and World Amateur titles were also special moments. But winning the World Championship tops it all.

Venue – What is your favourite venue to play at?
I’d have to say the Crucible, but the Ricoh Arena in Coventry is also a great venue – the set-up’s really good, the table plays well and it’s got a lovely feel to it.

Wheels – What car do you drive?
I’ve got an Audi Q7 but I’m going to look for a new one. Something along the lines of an Audi RS4 would be good – a new model comes out in November so there may be a purchase there.

X – If you could kiss any girl in the world, who would it be?
Cameron Diaz.

YIKES! – Do you have any phobias?
Heights. I was flying back from Latvia and couldn’t look out of the window as we were taking off. But then, on the next flight, I was fine. You’ve got to get on with it though, otherwise you won’t be playing.

Zzzzz – What puts you to sleep?
Whenever Snooker Extra’s on the BBC during a UK-based event, I’m fast asleep within five minutes.
