John HigginsJohn Higgins is one of a host of big names to seal their place for next week’s European Masters in Romania.

Four-time World Champion Higgins faced a stern test against Jimmy Robertson during today’s qualifying in Preston. Robertson charged into a 3-0 lead, thanks to breaks of 74, 46 and 43. Facing the exit door, Higgins began to up his game. Runs of 77 and 69 helped him to claw the deficit back to 3-2.  After forcing a decider, an authoritative break of 52 helped him to clinch a 4-3 comeback win.

Shaun Murphy booked his trip to Romania in style. He made a 147 break on his way to a 4-0 defeat of Allan Taylor. The maximum puts Murphy in line for an £11,000 payday thanks to the rolling qualifiers prize.

Ronnie O'SullivanRonnie O’Sullivan saw off Lyu Chenwei in his match yesterday evening. The Rocket went 1-0 down thanks to a break of 96 by Chenwei in the opener. However, O’Sullivan then took control, winning four in a row with breaks of 54, 56 and 65 to wrap up a 4-1 win.

Mark Selby had a quick turnaround following his Shanghai Masters final defeat to Ding Junhui. The Jester showed no signs of jet lag during his 4-1 defeat of John Astley.  The Jester made contributions of 71 and 103 on his way to the victory.

Neil Robertson reached Bucharest with a comfortable 4-1 win over Oliver Lines. The Australian made breaks of 51, 61 and 143 in the win.

Stuart Bingham was the biggest name to fall in qualifying. He lost a 4-3 battle with Scott Donaldson. World number two Bingham started well with a break of 95 in the opening frame. However, Donaldson responded with runs of 76 and 90 as the match went to a decider. It was the player from Perth who held himself together to make a contribution of 56 in the final frame and that proved to be enough to get over the line.
