Trump Beats Bingham To Reach Final

Trump was too good for World Champion Bingham

Judd Trump remained on course for his fifth ranking title as he beat Stuart Bingham 6-3 in the semi-finals of the Bank of Communications OTO Shanghai Masters.

From 2-1 down, Trump won five of the last six frames to book his second appearance in the final in Shanghai, having been denied the title by John Higgins in 2012. In his ninth ranking final, he will face Mark Allen or Kyren Wilson with a top prize of £85,000 at stake. Bristol’s 26-year-old Trump will be seeking his first ranking crown since the 2014 Australian Goldfields Open.

World number seven Trump took the opening frame today with a break of 95, then World Champion Bingham replied with 98 and 118 to take the lead, before Trump’s 100 made it 2-2 at the interval. A 39 clearance gave Trump frame five and he added the next with a top run of 45.

Bingham, who won this title last year, closed to 4-3 by clearing from yellow to pink in frame seven, but Trump dominated the next with breaks of 46 and 45, and closed out the match in frame nine with a 62.

“It was a good start to the match then it went a bit scrappy after the interval,” said Trump. “You’ve got to win those scrappy frames and I’ve done that well this week. We were both a bit nervy towards the end. I kept going for my shots, even under pressure.

“I can relax for the rest of today and I’m happy to be in the final again. This is my favourite city in China so it would be great to win here.”
