Trump / Murphy / Fu Through

Marco Fu scored a remarkable win over John Higgins at the Kreativ Dental Ruhr Open on Saturday as he made his way into the last 16.

Hong Kong’s Fu beat Higgins 4-0 in the last 64 without his opponent scoring a single point. Top breaks of 109, 89 and 56 helped Fu shut out his opponent, outscoring four-time World Champion Higgins by 412 points to 0.

Fu said: “It’s pretty rare – I’ve never done that before. Against a top player like John, it’s hard to shut him out for one frame, never mind a match. Everything went my way and I took my chances well. John missed one or two balls but didn’t get many chances.”

He went on to beat Fraser Patrick 4-3 in the last 32.

Judd Trump beat Rory McLeod 4-2 and Sam Baird 4-2 then saw off Matthew Selt 4-2 with a top break of 82 to book his place in Sunday’s conclusion at the European Tour event in Germany.

Shaun Murphy made a 127 in a 4-1 defeat of David Gilbert while Mark Williams edged out Mark Davis 4-3 in the third round with a 53 in the decider.

Chris Wakelin trailed Thepchaiya Un-Nooh by 35 points in the decider with just the colours left, but got the two snookers he needed and cleared to win 4-3.

Mark King beat China’s Zhou Yuelong 4-1, Joe Swail saw off Jamie Cope 4-1 and Fergal O’Brien eased to a 4-0 win over Michael Wasley.
