Trump Storms To Lommel Final

Judd Trump put on a sublime display to dispatch Cao Yupeng 6-1 and clinch his place in the final of the 888sport European Masters in Lommel.

The win sees Trump reach a second consecutive European Masters final. He lifted the title last season thanks to a thrilling 9-8 defeat of Ronnie O’Sullivan from 8-6 down. The Ace in the Pack will now have the opportunity to lift the trophy again and victory tomorrow would see Trump defend a ranking title for the first time in his career.

The blow of defeat for Cao will be softened by the fact that his appearance in the semi-finals is his best ever ranking performance. The 26-year-old’s best showing prior to the event was a run to the quarter-final stage of the 2013 Wuxi Classic.

The match got off to a promising start for Cao, who took the opening frame thanks to a cool contribution of 63. However, from that moment on it was the seven-time ranking event winner Trump who took complete control of proceedings.

Consecutive runs of 61, 100, 63, 87, 115 and 41 saw the Juddernaut surge to a comfortable victory in just under an hour and a half. He will face either Stuart Bingham or Zhou Yuelong in tomorrow’s final.

“I always know if I play well it is going to be quite comfortable and I played pretty well there,” said the 2011 UK Champion.”Even when I play badly now I still have a good chance, but if I can score like that and play like I can in practice it will be a great opportunity for a trophy.”

“Stuart is a great player, I watched him play against Mark Selby last night and he was very good. Tonight is going to be a close one but now I can just sit back and watch it. It is good to see young players like Zhou Yuelong come through and take out some of the older players. I think this year could be a bit of a changing of the guard.”
