Welshman Day landed the first ranking title of his 18-year career by beating Stephen Maguire 5-2 in the final in Latvia. And his £50,000 top prize puts him top of the one-year list with Maguire second in £25,000.
This list will once again be used to determine the field for the Ladbrokes World Grand Prix and Ladbrokes Players Championship later in the season. The top 32 on the one-year list after the Coral Shoot Out will qualify for the Ladbrokes World Grand Prix in Preston (February 19-25) then the top 16 from the same list after the Gibraltar Open will qualify for the Ladbrokes Players Championship in Llandudno (March 19-25).
Veteran Ken Doherty, now an invitational tour card holder, made a strong start to the season by reaching the last four in Riga, his first ranking event semi-final in six years. He earned £15,000, as did Mark Williams who was the other losing semi-finalist.
Paul Davison reached the last 16 of a ranking event for the first time in his career to bank £4,000, while Germany’s tour rookie Lukas Kleckers knocked out Neil Robertson to reach the last 32 and he earned £2,000.
On the official two-year ranking list, Day is up three places to 15th while Maguire climbs five spots to 19th. They will both have one eye on the race to the Dafabet Masters with the top 16 on that list after the Betway UK Championship to go through to snooker’s biggest invitational event in London in January.
Mark Selby still dominates at the top of the two-year list having been world number one for 28 consecutive months, with a lead of £734,525 over second places John Higgins.

Day’s victory could also earn him a place in the 16-man field for the Champion of Champions in Coventry in November. The Riga Masters is 21st on the list of qualifying tournaments but if there are enough repeat winners of the events higher up the list then he will qualify.

Please note: World Snooker recently notified the playing membership of a change to the rules on withdrawals from events and the impact on ranking points and prize money. This change outlined the introduction of an Appeals Committee to consider the circumstances, as presented by the players, of any withdrawal and determine if the player should have the points and prize money reinstated.
Following the Kaspersky Riga Masters 2017, the Committee were notified of the circumstances of four players (Wang Yuchen, Chen Zifan, Mark King & Jimmy Robertson) who withdrew from this event and who had earned points and prize money in the event prior to withdrawal. The Committee have considered the circumstances of these players and in each case have determined that they do demonstrate exceptional mitigating circumstances and for that reason all four players have had their points and prize money reinstated and that decision becomes effective from today’s date and the rankings at this point will be used for all draws scheduled to be determined by the rankings from this event.
For future clarity, it is important to note that it may not be possible for a decision to be made in time for the re-ranking at the end of an event it may take some days to consider and conclude on these matters. If a decision is made after the re-ranking point for the purposes of a draw, it will not affect any draw that has already been made.
