Warrior Battles To Beat Bond

Kyren Wilson came through a tough test against Nigel Bond in the qualifying round of the Yushan World Open on Saturday, winning 5-3 to book his spot in the final stages.

World number nine Wilson looked in danger of defeat when he trailed 3-2, but he hit back to take the last three frames with a top break of 68.

Luca Brecel fired runs of 74, 77, 95 and 67 as he beat Ian Burns 5-1, while Gary Wilson saw off Jimmy White by the same scoreline with a top break of 79.

World number 69 Lee Walker scored a surprise 5-1 win over Anthony McGill, who is 55 places higher in the rankings. Breaks of 60, 79 and 59 helped Walker to an impressive victory.

China’s promising Zhao Xintong, who regained his pro status via Q School after being relegated from the tour last season, beat Graeme Dott 5-3 with a top run of 68.

Egypt’s Basem Eltahhan scored just 39 points as he lost 5-0 to Ali Carter, whose top break was 98.

The qualifying round finishes on Monday with the main event in China to run from August 6-12.
