Wells Edges Ford in Shanghai Qualifying

Daniel Wells edged out recent Paul Hunter Classic Finalist Tom Ford 5-4 at the Shanghai Masters qualifiers in Barnsley.

It was the Welshman Wells who came out of the traps quickest, making a break of 66 in the second frame to move 2-0 in front. However, Ford responded with contributions of 77 and 57 to draw level. The pair then traded frames until the decider, where Wells came through to secure passage to round three.

Kurt MaflinNorway’s Kurt Maflin saw off Chinese teenager Yan Bingtao 5-4 in a high quality clash. Breaks of 88, 69 and 80 helped Bingtao into a 4-3 lead. However, Maflin held his resolve and produced runs of 123 and 71 in the final two frames to snatch victory.

Thepchaiya Un-Nooh broke his 147 hoodoo at the weekend, but Adam Duffy proved too strong for the Thai in Barnsley.  With the game poised at 2-2 the 27-year-old Duffy pulled away with contributions of 45, 101 and 64 to seal a 5-2 win.

Rod Lawler won a marathon clash with Akani Songsermsawad. Lawler trailed the Thai 4-1, however he clawed his way back into the match. After a gruelling five hours and 45 minutes it was Lawler that came through in the decider to secure a 5-4 win.

Stuart Carrington produced a great performance to secure a 5-3 defeat of Michael Georgiou. Carrington made breaks of 118, 68, 61, 96 and 69 on his way to the win.
