Whirlwind Set For Daqing
Veteran Jimmy White proved he can still compete on the World Snooker Tour by beating Fergal O’Brien 6-5 on Wednesday to qualify for the final stages of the International Championship.
The 56-year-old goes through to the last 64 of the world ranking event in Daqing, China, starting on October 28. From 5-4 down, White took the tenth frame against O’Brien on the final black, then made a 76, his highest break of the match, to win the decider.
Amateur David Lilley scored a surprise 6-4 win over Ricky Walden, who won the tournament in 2014. Newcastle’s Lilley top scored with 58 and 99.
Marco Fu saw off Simon Lichtenberg 6-2 while China’s promising Luo Honghao made a 111 in a 6-1 thrashing of Michael White.
Ryan Day top scored with 134 in a 6-2 win over Lee Walker while Stephen Maguire took just 78 minutes to beat Duane Jones 6-0, knocking in runs of 83, 65, 113, 68, 56 and 79.
Tuesday’s winners in Barnsley included Neil Robertson, Barry Hawkins, Kyren Wilson and Jack Lisowski.
